Meron is the gravesite of the holy sage, Reb Shimon bar Yochai. Over the centuries, Meron has been the site for many visitors from far and near. During the last forty-five years, the Yad Ezrah Organization pioneered the establishment of a hospitality framework in Meron that caters to the needs of the many thousands of visitors to Meron. This system includes hundreds of neatly arranged sleeping quarters available for guests. Yad Ezrah's central dining hall, seating one thousand guests, provides food, drink and hot meals free of charge, during Shabbat and Rosh Hashanah. Lag Ba'omer, the eighteenth of Iyar, is the Yahrtzeit of Reb Shimon bar Yochai. Close to one million people from all over the world arrive in Meron on Lag Ba'omer. Yad Ezrah extends itself to the needs of these people in a very tangible sense. A refreshment stand offers cold and hot drinks, as well as sandwiches and cakes to refresh the weary travelers. When necessary, sleeping provisions are also provided.
